This award is for a male artist
Eligibility:
The male artist must be in good standing as of October 1st of the upcoming fiscal year
Selection Process:

  • All eligible male artists will be selected for the contender round.
  • This category will be voted on by Industry and Corporate members
  • The contender Round will be from October 5 to October 19
  • The top ten (10) contenders collected from the Contender Round as decided upon by the membership, will be placed on the nominee ballot and will become the Top 10 nominees
  • The Nominee Round will be from November 2 to November 16
  • The top 5 (5) nominees collected from the Nominee Round as decided upon by the members will be placed on the final ballot and will become the Top 5 nominees
  • Final Round of voting will be December 7th to December 28th
  • From the list of Top 5 nominees, the ACMA members will pick one (1) nominee for their choice of Male Artist of the Year
  • The Nominee receiving the most votes will be announced as the Winner during the Alberta Country Music Awards. In the case of a tie, more than one (1) Winner will be announced.
  • One award is presented to the artist.

Female Artist of the Year:

This award is for a female artist
Eligibility:
The female artist must be in good standing as of October 1st of the upcoming fiscal year

Group or Duo of the Year:

This award is for a group or duo
Eligibility:
The group or duo must be in good standing as of October 1st of the upcoming fiscal year

  • This category will be voted on by Industry and Corporate members
  • The contender Round will be from October 5th to October 19th
  • The top ten (10) contenders collected from the Contender Round as decided upon by the membership, will be placed on the nominee ballot and will become the Top 10 nominees

Fan’s Choice:

This award is for any artist/group/duo
Eligibility:
The artist/group/duo must be in good standing as of October 1st of the upcoming fiscal year
Selection Process:

  • All eligible artists/groups/duos will be selected for the contender round.
  • This category will be voted on by Industry and Corporate and Fan members
  • The contender Round will be from October 5th to October 19th
  • The top ten (10) contenders collected from the Contender Round as decided upon by the membership, will be placed on the nominee ballot and will become the Top 10 nominees
  • The Nominee Round will be from November 2nd to November 16th
  • The top 5 (5) nominees collected from the Nominee Round as decided upon by the members will be placed on the final ballot and will become the Top 5 nominees
  • Final Round of voting will be December 7th to December 28th
  • From the list of Top 5 nominees, the ACMA members will pick one (1) nominee for their choice of Fan’s Choice.
  • The Nominee receiving the most votes will be announced as the Winner during the Alberta Country Music Awards. In the case of a tie, more than one (1) Winner will be announced.
  • One award is presented to the artist/group/duo.

Talent Buyer of the Year:

This award is for talent buyers.
Eligibility:
The talent buyer must be an ACMA member in good standing as of October 1st of that upcoming fiscal year.
Selection Process:

  • All eligible talent buyers will be selected for the contender round.
  • This category will be voted on by Industry and Corporate members
  • The contender Round will be from October 5th to October 19th
  • The top ten (10) contenders collected from the Contender Round as decided upon by the membership, will be placed on the nominee ballot and will become the Top 10 nominees
  • The Nominee Round will be from November 2nd to November 16th
  • The top 5 (5) nominees collected from the Nominee Round as decided upon by the members will be placed on the final ballot and will become the Top 5 nominees
  • Final Round of voting will be December 7th to December 28th
  • From the list of Top 5 nominees, the ACMA members will pick one (1) nominee for their choice of Talent Buyer of the Year
  • The Nominee receiving the most votes will be announced as the Winner during the Alberta Country Music Awards. In the case of a tie, more than one (1) Winner will be announced.
  • One award is presented to the company.

Industry Person of the Year:

This award is for an individual who holds a Corporate or Corporate-Single membership
CRITERIA:
The industry person must be in good standing as of October 1st of that upcoming fiscal year
Selection Process:

  • All eligible persons will be selected for the contender round.
  • This category will be voted on by Industry and Corporate members.
  • The contender Round will be from October 5th to October 19th
  • The top ten (10) contenders collected from the Contender Round as decided upon by the membership, will be placed on the nominee ballot and will become the Top 10 nominees
  • The Nominee Round will be from November 2nd to November 16th
  • The top 5 (5) nominees collected from the Nominee Round as decided upon by the members will be placed on the final ballot and will become the Top 5 nominees
  • Final Round of voting will be December 7th to December 28th
  • From the list of Top 5 nominees, the ACMA members will pick one (1) nominee for their choice of Industry Person of the Year.
  • The Nominee receiving the most votes will be announced as the Winner during the Alberta Country Music Awards. In the case of a tie, more than one (1) Winner will be announced.
  • One award is presented to the winner.

Song of the Year:

This award is for a songwriter(s).
Eligibility:
Are members in good standing as of October 1st of that upcoming fiscal year.
The songwriter(s) song has been commercially verifiably released during the period October 1st & September 30th of the previous fiscal year
The song being nominated contains a total of no less than 50% of songwriting credit consisting of music or lyrics or a combination thereof, being written by a member.
Selection Process:

  • Eligible songs will be submitted to the ACMA between September 26th and October 3rd
  • All verified eligible songs will be added to the contenders round.
  • This category will be voted on by Industry and Corporate members.
  • The contender Round will be from October 5th to October 19th
  • The top ten (10) contenders collected from the Contender Round as decided upon by the membership, will be placed on the nominee ballot and will become the Top 10 nominees
  • The Nominee Round will be from November 2nd to November 16th
  • The top 5 (5) nominees collected from the Nominee Round as decided upon by the members will be placed on the final ballot and will become the Top 5 nominees
  • Final Round of voting will be December 7th to December 28th
  • From the list of Top 5 nominees, the ACMA members will pick one (1) nominee for their choice of Song of the Year.
  • The Nominee receiving the most votes will be announced as the Winner during the Alberta Country Music Awards. In the case of a tie, more than one (1) Winner will be announced.
  • One award is presented to the winner.

Album of the Year:

This award is for an album.
Eligibility:
Artist/group/duo that released the album are members in good standing as of October 1st of the upcoming fiscal year
Has released a commercially verifiable album or EP during the period of October 1st & September 30th of the previous fiscal year.
This Award is for an album as a whole unit. An Album is defined as a project containing no less than six (6) tracks and can be a special project or commemorative package. Greatest Hits albums do not qualify. Compilation albums do not qualify
The Album must have been released during the eligibility period.
Final Nominees from the previous year are not eligible for the same album in the current year
Selection Process:

  • Eligible albums will be submitted to the ACMA between September 26th and October 3rd.
  • All verified eligible albums will be added to the contender round.
  • This category will be voted on by Industry and Corporate members.
  • The contender Round will be from October 5th to October 19th
  • The top ten (10) contenders collected from the Contender Round as decided upon by the membership, will be placed on the nominee ballot and will become the Top 10 nominees
  • The Nominee Round will be from November 2nd to November 16th
  • The top 5 (5) nominees collected from the Nominee Round as decided upon by the members will be placed on the final ballot and will become the Top 5 nominees
  • Final Round of voting will be December 7th to December 28th
  • From the list of Top 5 nominees, the ACMA members will pick one (1) nominee for their choice of Album of the Year.

Video of the Year:

This award is for a music video.
Eligibility:
Artist/group/duo that released the video are members in good standing as of October 1st of that upcoming fiscal year
Has released a music video during the period of October 1st & September 30th of the previous fiscal year
Selection Process:

  • Eligible videos will be submitted to the ACMA between September 26th and October 3rd.
  • All verified eligible videos will be added to the contender round.
  • This category will be voted on by Industry and Corporate members.
  • The contender Round will be from October 5th to October 19th
  • The top ten (10) contenders collected from the Contender Round as decided upon by the membership, will be placed on the nominee ballot and will become the Top 10 nominees
  • The Nominee Round will be from November 2nd to November 16th
  • The top 5 (5) nominees collected from the Nominee Round as decided upon by the members will be placed on the final ballot and will become the Top 5 nominees
  • Final Round of voting will be December 7th to December 28th
  • From the list of Top 5 nominees, the ACMA members will pick one (1) nominee for their choice of Video of the Year.
  • The Nominee receiving the most votes will be announced as the Winner during the Alberta Country Music Awards. In the case of a tie, more than one (1) Winner will be announced.

Musician of the Year:

This award is for an individual musician.
Eligibility:
The group/duo the musician is part of must be members in good standing as of October 1st of that upcoming fiscal year.
OR
A musician not dedicated to a group/duo must be a member themselves in good standing as of October 1st of that upcoming fiscal year.
The musician cannot be selected for Female, Male or Fan’s Choice awards.
Selection Process:

  • Eligible musicians will be submitted to the ACMA between September 26th and October 3rd of that upcoming fiscal year.
  • All verified eligible musicians will be added to the contender round.
  • This category will be voted on by Industry and Corporate members.
  • The contender Round will be from October 5th to October 19th
  • The top ten (10) contenders collected from the Contender Round as decided upon by the membership, will be placed on the nominee ballot and will become the Top 10 nominees
  • The Nominee Round will be from November 2nd to November 16th
  • The top 5 (5) nominees collected from the Nominee Round as decided upon by the members will be placed on the final ballot and will become the Top 5 nominees
  • Final Round of voting will be December 7th to December 28th
  • From the list of Top 5 nominees, the ACMA members will pick one (1) nominee for their choice of Musician of the Year.
  • The Nominee receiving the most votes will be announced as the Winner during the Alberta Country Music Awards. In the case of a tie, more than one (1) Winner will be announced.

Youth Artist of the Year:

This award is for an individual artist.
Eligibility:
The artist must be a member in good standing as of October 1st of that upcoming fiscal year.
The artist must be 18 less a day as of October 1st of that upcoming fiscal year.
The artist must have performed a minimum of 5 performances in the period of October 1 2016 to September 30 2017.
The artist must have either: a fully functional website OR a fully completed ACMA profile as of October 1st of that upcoming fiscal year.
Selection Process:

  • Eligible artist will submit to the ACMA between September 26th and October 3rd of that upcoming fiscal year with the specific package requirements. (requirements can be found by emailing info@abcountrymusic.ca)
  • All verified eligible artists will be added to the contender round.
  • This category will be voted on by Industry and Corporate members.
  • The contender Round will be from October 5th to October 19th.
  • The top ten (10) contenders collected from the Contender Round as decided upon by the membership, will be placed on the nominee ballot and will become the Top 10 nominees.
  • The Nominee Round will be from November 2nd to November 16th.
  • The top 5 (5) nominees collected from the Nominee Round as decided upon by the members will be placed on the final ballot and will become the Top 5 nominees.
  • Final Round of voting will be December 7th to December 28th.
  • From the list of Top 5 nominees, the ACMA members will pick one (1) nominee for their choice of Musician of the Year.

Radio Station of the Year:

This award is for a single radio station.
Eligibility:
The radio station must have a member in good standing as of October 1st of that upcoming fiscal year.
Any Canadian terrestrial country radio station (as defined by the CRTC)
Selection Process:

  • Eligible radio stations will be submitted to the ACMA between September 26th and October 3rd of that upcoming fiscal year.
  • All verified eligible stations will be added to the contender round.
  • This category will be voted on by Industry and Corporate members.
  • The contender Round will be from October 5th to October 19th.
  • The top ten (10) contenders collected from the Contender Round as decided upon by the membership, will be placed on the nominee ballot and will become the Top 10 nominees.
  • The Nominee Round will be from November 2nd to November 16th.
  • The top 5 (5) nominees collected from the Nominee Round as decided upon by the members will be placed on the final ballot and will become the Top 5 nominees.
  • Final Round of voting will be December 7th to December 28th.
  • From the list of Top 5 nominees, the ACMA members will pick one (1) nominee for their choice of Musician of the Year.

Country Venue of the Year

This award is for a country venue.
Eligibility:
The venue must have a member in good standing as of October 1st of that upcoming fiscal year.
The venue must be located within Alberta.
The venue must have promoted a country event within the period of October 1 2016 to September 30 2017.
Selection Process:

  • Eligible venues will be submitted to the ACMA between September 26th and October 3rd of that upcoming fiscal year.
  • All verified eligible venues will be added to the contender round.
  • This category will be voted on by Industry and Corporate members.
  • The contender Round will be from October 5th to October 19th.
  • The top ten (10) contenders collected from the Contender Round as decided upon by the membership, will be placed on the nominee ballot and will become the Top 10 nominees.
  • The Nominee Round will be from November 2nd to November 16th.
  • The top 5 (5) nominees collected from the Nominee Round as decided upon by the members will be placed on the final ballot and will become the Top 5 nominees.
  • Final Round of voting will be December 7th to December 28th.
  • From the list of Top 5 nominees, the ACMA members will pick one (1) nominee for their choice of Musician of the Year.
  • The Nominee receiving the most votes will be announced as the Winner during the Alberta Country Music Awards. In the case of a tie, more than one (1) Winner will be announced.

Single of the Year:

This award is for a single released.
Eligibility:
Artist/group/duo that released the single are members in good standing by October 1st of that upcoming fiscal year.
Have released a song during the time period of October 1st through September 30th of the previous fiscal year.
This Award is only for tracks which have been charted as singles during the eligibility period.
Selection Process:

  • Eligible singles which were among the top five (5) spinning singles at radio will qualify. The list of qualifying singles will be compiled through Trax Report.
  • The top five (5) singles will automatically be placed on the Final ballot for voting on by our membership.
  • This category will be voted on by Industry and Corporate members.
  • Final Round of voting will be December 7th to December 28th
  • From the list of Top 5 nominees, the ACMA members will pick one (1) nominee for their choice of Single of the Year.
  • The Nominee receiving the most votes will be announced as the Winner during the Alberta Country Music Awards. In the case of a tie, more than one (1) Winner will be announced.
  • One Award is presented to the Act (Solo, Duo or Group).

Rising Star:

This award is for an artist/group/duo.
Eligibility:
The artist/group/duo is members in good standing by October 1st of that upcoming fiscal year.
Have released a song during the time period October 1st through September 30th of the previous fiscal year.
This category is open only to those artists who meet the CRTC definition of Emerging artist as defined in Broadcasting Regulatory Policy CRTC 2011-316
This category is open only to those artists who have never before won the Rising Star Award and who have never before won for the Fan’s Choice Award, Single of the Year, Group or Duo of the Year, Female Artist of the Year, Male Artist of the Year or Album of the Year
Selection Process:

  • Rising Star contenders are determined by Trax Report to be the top five (5) spinning artists at radio during the eligibility period.
  • The top five (5) nominees will automatically be placed on the Final Ballot for voting on by our membership.
  • This category will be voted on by Industry and Corporate members.
  • Final Round of voting will be December 7th to December 28th
  • From the list of Top 5 nominees, the ACMA members will pick one (1) nominee for their choice of Rising Star.
  • The Nominee receiving the most votes will be announced as the Winner during the Alberta Country Music Awards. In the case of a tie, more than one (1) Winner will be announced.
  • One Award is presented to the Act (Solo, Duo or Group).
